War of Dragons

Historical Events

Description

The War of Dragons was a war between two factions, each consisting primarily of Dragons but also supported by the divided Suyerin lands. The war was an escalation of the existing civil war between Gordiern's Taspian Empire and the traitors Aschanes and Horsus. Dragons became embroiled in the conflict when Gordiern ascended Mount Emrys and forged an alliance with the elder dragon Ruanil.

Ruanil and his children laid waste to much of Shuul's south, where Aschanes and Horsus reigned. Looking upon the devastation caused by Ruanil, the bard Myrdin went mad, and was never seen thereafter. Following this, the dragon Beithir joined the conflict, aiming to put a stop to Ruanil's terror. This marked the beginning of the War of Dragons.

The conflict continued in this way for many decades, with Gordiern and his descendants leading the Northern territories of the Taspian Empire against the traitors Aschanes and Horsus, each side supported by an army of dragons. During these decades, the close relationship between the Suyerin people and their dragons lead to the birth of the Dragonborn, a race of humanoid dragonfolk.

Long after the Taspian Empire had collapsed, the dragons continued their war over the now desolate island of Shuul, with most of the Suyerin people having long since fled, or died.
